August 25, marks eight years to the day we lost one of the greatest people ever… I never met Aaliyah, but her music and presents was something that I felt deeply when she was alive.
I got hooked on ‘Baby Girl’s’ music when she did the “Back In One Piece” song. It was one of those songs that defined a moment for me and the chemistry between her and DMX was like fire… Thinking back I can’t even place the moment that made this song special, but I do remember the feeling and I had that feeling recently when I wrote about Aaliyah on her birthday (Song Of The Day: Aaliyah & DMX “Come Back In One Piece” Blog). I guess the feeling you get is more important than the person you shared it with sometimes, but then again sometimes the person is what invokes that feeling like when I wrote about Aaliyah the first time.
Whatever the case may be, Aaliyah is and always will be someone I cherish as an artist and fellow creative mind. From “4 page Letter” to “Miss You” she’s made my life just a little bit better… I’ll never forget her and even though her life was cut short; she more than made it worthwhile before her tragic death.
Get familiar and pay homage to AALIYAH…
