To be honest Shaggy was never one of my favorite Reggae/Dancehall artist, but musically he was undeniable. “It Wasn’t Me” kinda set the stage for what would be a sick 2000/2001 for this nigga. 10 million units of a Reggae/Dancehall album domestically?!?!
Thinking about it now… That shit is almost mathematically impossible. Reggae/Dancehall music wasn’t at its peak till 2002/2003 with the advent of Sean Paul, but Shaggy set it up for artists like Sean Paul to be more accepted and to capitalize off the catchy vibe that was Reggae/Dancehall music at that time!
What’s crazy is that Shaggy pretty much flopped on the follow up to his diamond selling Hot Shot, which is sad because that album was just as good if not better. The singles just didn’t connect well. 😦
Oh well… The books are closed and Shaggy is pretty comfortable now…
“It Wasn’t Me” is his legacy now and what’s crazy is that some people will say he was a “ONE HIT WONDER.” NOT TRUE! Count Off!
Homie did his thing and even though he prolly won’t ever be seen in the limelight again. He sold a rack of units and lived the life. 🙂
