My favorite years in Hip Hop have to be ‘94-’96 when the underground and mainstream sort of were on the same level because of the limitations on radio and TV. You had your standouts, but most if not all artists were in the same boat and if you had your jawn in rotation on BET or Yo! MTV raps you were the man!
Enter Yaggfu Front from N.C.. These niggas had a record called “Busted Loop” that was my formal introduction to them back in mid- ‘94 and after that song came this song ===>”LEFT FIELD.” Amazingly enough this record was one of those smooth undeniable tracks and to this day is one of my favorite records of all-time. Why?
Because it tells the story of most mens’ lives… The dudes that see a chick so fine they get shook and can’t approach her. The dudes who have that “female friend” that’s so right, but just can’t get it right with them because homie doesn’t want to mess up that “friendship.” It’s a bloody mess when you think about it, but that’s just the way life is for some people. They make it difficult on themselves when it comes to relations or pursuing the opposite sex.
Personally I’m pretty forward with women and don’t really care. I mean, almost all of my female friends know I’d prolly smash them off if given the opportunity and they all seem to be comfortable knowing that because the dude that keeps the obvious from being known is more than likely the stalker standing outside your window right now. Think about it…
Me… I just keep it super real with the ladies all the time and I’m not a dog or anything, just a regular dude who isn’t scared to be upfront with ’em. A non-left-fielder if you will.
But on the real that took some time for me to develop into because at a certain point in my life I could relate with the message of this song and as I’ve grow older and wiser I see things with less bias and with more of an open-minded view and I’m pretty happy with it. Am I playing “left field” anymore?
NURP… I’m all in the game and got center field on lock! GET AT ME!
Rewind to ‘94!
