Hi, my name is Hugh and I haven’t written much lately because I’ve been helping put out classic/timeless music with Nickelus F (Season Premiere), I’ve been busy with my family and its new addition Baby Taylor AKA Super Baby Niece 🙂 & of course staring at this picture of Scarlett Johannson kissing Sandra Bullock all day ==> (click here)… So yeah basically my time has been spent doing a lot of things outside the realm of “writing.”

I’d like to make this my formal introduction back into the writing world because I miss it!

I’m going to start off light and talk about music in this one to ease the transition over into hardcore writer(ing) about “Damaged People” (via Bhumi) or “Hugh V. H Diddy Dollar” (via Alex). Yep! I’m back!

Summer Jams…

I’ve got to throw in my two cents about some summer music classics for y’all. It’s no surprise I hoard music like Rick Ross hoards Maybachs, but I actually listen to a lot of stuff and every summer has songs that I throw in rotation that just bring me to another place… You know those records that remind you of your childhood or bring you back to a moment in your life where things were just SWEET! As you my well know, everyday for me is candy coated, but there were standout moments that certain music made better and always take me away to a time when life was LIFE!  I’m taking this opportunity to share some of those moments now. 🙂

Beyonce ft. Ghostface Killah – Summertime (Remix)

This song just makes me smile. It was summer 2003 and it was my first summer where I was officially on my own. Life was good. Kenny & I had the bachelor pad on the island (Long Island) where the AC unit was busted till August… 😦 Money was straight and I was getting my feet wet in the music industry. I used to rock with this song on those long train rides into the city to check out Nu at the Universal building and just build. This song is just representative of what being at ease with life was like and doesn’t really take me to any one place in particular except “at ease” #CLASSIC!

“It was the summertime (when we fell in love)/ It was the summertime (when heaven shined on us)/ It was the summertime (baby there is nothing like the)/ Summertime, summertime…”

Nina Sky – Beautiful People

This song doesn’t mean as much to me as the person who sent it to me. It’s no secret I’m probably the only straight dude in the universe that likes Nina Sky’s whole catalog of music. I just think they’re voices are sooooo sweet, but yeah… July 2009 I got caught off guard and missed this one while I was juggling my 9to5, the blogs & Nick’s career. And my Muse sent it to me (she share’s a similar love for the Ninas that I do). I didn’t really peep the record till that weekend when the girls from Philly were down in DC for the 4th. Whooo-Lee Hoop & Niloo fell head over heals for the record and I was like, “wow my friends are actually fucking with a Nina Sky song?!?!” Whatever the case a few days later I hit up the Muse on some friendly shit and apparently I’d been cut off. I guess her life got to real and my feels too deep, but this song always brings me back to a place that was sort of a dream for me. To actually have someone who’s so much like me, but not like me at all in my life was refreshing. I can only think of the good when it comes to the Muse (even though we used to conflict a lot). I refuse to go backwards though. Life’s way too sweet to think about the negative shit and attitudes. I’m surrounded by too many ‘beautiful people’ to be worried about one and maybe not having that type of bond with someone now is a blessing because life took a drastic change after the Muse bounce. It’s all part of the cycle I guess.

“I’ma make it known the second I arrive/ For your sake, you better hope nobody catch my eye/ Cause since your living like you’re single/ I’ma do the same, I’ma do my thing, yeah…”

Swizz Beatz – That Oprah

Prosperity and cars are 2 of my favorite things in life. Superficial right? Not really… Because all that shit is jsut a bunch of  “things.” We should all want nice things in our lives. It only makes sense because if modest living is what we’d strive for this wouldn’t be America; it would be like North Korea or something… Any hoots, this song is synonymous with our summer of 2008. We were all doing well. Everyone’s stocks were up and banks accounts were looking pretty healthy. The recession was lingering, but we weren’t affected and the sun was out more than not that summer. It was a great time! BMW and Lexus, BBQ’s every other weekend (week days sometimes too) and a lust for life that was unmeasurable by the standards of  our peers. This song was the soundtrack to some wild night and is a shining example of how the word “flamboyant” should be used. No doubt about it, it’s a summertime classic!

“Red Enzo… A MILLION BUCK$!”

Nickelus F – Great Set Of Teeth (Monumentous)

What’s ill about working with Nick is to be able to bear witness to his greatness. To me he makes the art of Hip Hop music special and as a person who I’ve gotten to bond with, I feel like we’re family more than friends. This song impacted my life in Spring 2009, but hit the world Summer 2009 and it’s one of those songs that just keeps me in tune with the bigger picture. He talks about how he’s grown because of the new lives he now has to LIVE for. The lyrics just take me to a place that makes me feel like there’s more to life than what’s immediately in front of us… That if you set your mind on achieving a goal, don’t give up on it, no matter how long it takes you to get there. We’ve all been through a lot of ups and downs along this road to the top. We’ve seen friends pass us by and lesser talent succeed, but at the end of the day there’s something that we know will never die and that’s the art we’ve created. Whether it’s this song or something I write in my blog. The words we put down for all of you will live on as long as we keep pushing for them to… Get familiar with this and tell me what you can take from it because it made me really appreciate what life was about back then.

“I am proud to be the man that I am/No, I ain’t perfect, but I got a good heart and I recognize my purpose/ I deserve this/ The WordSmith from right up out the churches/ Let the world judge me and write about the verdict… You need that heartfelt/ I’ll come to your service/ So much more to me than what you see up on the surface/ A HEATHEN because I’m weak, but I desire to be more earnest…”

Ill Al Skratch – Summertime (It’s All Good)

1994… Yeah I’m type old with it, but this joint was hittin’! All I can say is from August to September that summer this was may jawn. Ill Al Skratch are still around somewhere and I hope they see this because this song made my summer, my life, my world a lot sweeter that year and I just recently discovered it again because it has long since been forgotten like the tape that it was on. Thank you to who ever pulled this one off the CD and put it on the internets for me to snatch up! Oh yeah and it’s properly titled to fit the mood 😉

“Madballs, 156 corner crew/ Where everyday life is shoot dice, drink brew/ When the sun shine it’s fine Uptown/ It only get better as the sun goes down/ I’m Al Skratch and I’m back with another rhyme/ In my hood it’s all good when it’s summertime…”

Mobb Deep ft. 50 Cent – If You Want It (Unreleased)

Before I had my iPhone I used to burn mad CDs of new music and rock with them in the V back in 2006. The 8-CD changer in the Audi was always full of new music for me to ride to on my many road trips from Merry-land to Pennsylvania. There was one CD that I particularly enjoyed that included this song and a few other songs from my Summer Jams collection. This one only stands out to me because (like beyonce) it just makes me happy whenever I hear it. It’s misogynistic (Like how I like all my music), but with a lightheartedness that kind of makes you forgive them for the content. My significant other at the time didn’t mind it so much either, which was cool too. Summer 2006 was full of good times, but sadly enough is a chapter in my life that only lives on through the music I enjoyed from the time. Other than that, it’s 2010 and I’m on!

“(If you want) You can kiss it girl. I won’t tell…”

So…  These songs were just the few that kind of stood out to me as I was coming up with shit to write. I really wasn’t planning on write more shit you probably wouldn’t care to read about this topic. But I will leave you with some words of wisdom my Muse told me about music that brings you to a place in time like these songs… “If you enjoy the music, but that time, that place or that person is gone. Just create a new experience and let those songs you love be the soundtrack to it.” She was a smart motherfucker for a crazy bitch, but I’m just as crazy too and I know what she means now because these songs mean so much more to me now than they did when I lived them…

Enjoy music people.

I don’t usually feed into this Illuminati shit because what’s the point?

They’ve been around forever and that’s just the way it is… Evil or not, are you gonna stop them or get up and go to work on Monday and keep minding your business?

Frankly, this “conspiracy theory” stuff has entertained me since I was in 10th grade. Now people are just noticing it more even though it’s been prevalent since the 60’s in popular culture. I can remember bands like Blacks Sabbath openly worshiping Satan and Ozzy Osborne biting heads off bats and drinking blood on stage in the name of “entertainment.” But Jay-Z makes a dark video and everyone is on his dick about it… Is everything the black man does that trend setting and upsetting to society?

I hope so cause when we come up y’all ain’t gonna be ready for the shit we got…

I basically already expressed my dislike of the direction this took Jay-Z visually as an artist because isn’t Jay-Z to me. When I first saw the video I liked it because it was creative and now people are putting an effort into trying to expose him as a “Mason” or a member of the “Illuminati” because of it. I think you get your free pass to these “secret societies” once you make your first $100 million… The rest of the people are born into… And so what if Jay’s in it. I ain’t mad when he’s in VIP at the club and I’m stuck at the bar. Those who are mad we call, “HATERS.”

So ok, here’s an “analysis” of the “On To The Next One” video some guy put together on New Year’s day to help us see the light. My man Kev Clark (Don’t Lose Your Day Job ) sent me the link and we’ve been laughing about this since yesterday. The guy who made this video, instead of rallying people together to fight the power, got on Microsoft Moviemaker and ripped apart a Jay-Z video to try to help us understand shit we’re prolly never gonna care about or fully understand ever!

It’s no secret that there’s a power greater than government out there that controls shit, but again, what the fuck can we do about it?

There’s over six billion people on this planet and we let a small handful control us???

That doesn’t show me that there’s a problem with them… That shows me there’s a problem with us…

Think about it.

I love the creativity in this video, but let’s admit… Satan prolly directed this shit… The visuals are at times too outrageous and downright dark… And the terrible product placement of a Jaguar XJ was bullshit. They must have paid him a grip to cosign that…  Who drives those shits?

I know! Every stupid nigga who wants to be like Jay does. Enjoy the shitty engine and interior that looks like a Power Wheels toy truck motherfuckers…  The milk thing is kinda creepy too. Birdman had Drake walkin’ in milk in the “Money To Blow” and this video had mad milk in it too… MILK = EVIL to me now… Thank goodness I don’t drink that shit. And why are we drinking milk from a cow’s tit anyway? That’s not even right!

Anyways… I love Jay’s artistry at time, but sometimes I think he’s just one of those dumb niggas that goes a long with what his “cool new friends” want him to do. Don’t get it twisted, the video is hot, but to me it’s not at all a good representation of the Jay-Z I want to remember or know as the greatest to do it because this is more Marlyn Manson than Shawn Carter (Props to C.E. on the Marlyn Manson comparison).

I guess enjoy the video for what it is ===> “Entertainment”

And don’t worry so much about going to hell, if more shit like this is allowed out, we’re prolly already living in hell.

Very dope video… A lot of aggressive content here…I will give Chris Brown a pass the Rihanna shit. I know it’s wrong and I’d never do some shit like that and trust me, I’ve had some monsterous bitches get on my shit. I’d never swing on a jawn though… That’s not cool. Only God can judge you now C.Bro…

So yeah, speaking of aggressive content and beatings. 50’s album leaked a couple of hours ago. I’m so fucking with it right now… 🙂 I’ll check back soon enough with some updates on that.

Enjoy this record though… I call it C.Bro’s redemptions….

So I wrote a whole blog about 2009 and I felt it wasn’t as sincere as it could be because when I force myself to write something it never sounds like me so I decided to take step back and think about some of my favorite “words of wisdom” from none other then Beanie Sigel

“Damn, i feel it in the air, you not sincere/ Nigga it ain’t an us, or we, or I’ma thing/ It’s a good/bad karma thing/ This the code man an honor thing/ I swear i feel somethin’ honestly-Beanie Sigel

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Cause Sigel hit it on the head. “IT’S A GOOD/BAD MARMA THING.” I’m a strong believer in Karma and feel that a lot of the things that have gone on in my life up to a certain point were do to BAD KARMA. God has a way of playing chess with me and I’ve noticed. He’ll let me get off and snatch a few of his pawns, but his knight ends up busting my ass down till he checks me with his Bishop.

Last year I flipped it around on em and took it upon myself to changed my path for the better and it’s been a blessing so let’s hope in 2009 I get to CHECK the man upstairs to show him I’m worthy of all the new blessings he bestowed on me.

So… What am I feeling in 2009?

I don’t feel it’s going to be a big year where my “team”  wins or a year of growth ( all so CLICHE), but it’s more of a year of CHANGE.

CHANGE in ideas, movements, paths and most of all feelings…

I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster that’s weighed heavy on my mind and soul for a whole year.

It more or less started with a question of what I did or didn’t do that turned into a question of what haven’t I done yet??? And last year my inspiration was anger/pain and as weird as this sounds, it made me do better for myself…

In ’09 though NO MORE boundaries or fears. NO MORE ‘if’, ‘ands’ or ‘maybes.’ NO MORE bitterness… And this is a big one, NO MORE DOUBTS.

It’s all DESTINY  and since I see clearly now I’ve been blessed by a few people who I have to mention who are making this trip one to remember:

DISCLAIMER: These are in no particular order. So don’t get on me because you ain’t #1 even though #1 is supposed to be #1 😉

#1 K… I stumbled upon someone who is EXACTLY LIKE ME. 🙂 Not like how T.P. (Ace) is like me (you know silly and shit), but like how I am a little deeper down and it all started from some random knowledge of music we both shared that opened up a window of very stimulating conversation, which kind of inspired me to flip what I was going to write for 2009 into what I’m spilling now. It’s DESTINY. We’re both from QUEENS & love NINA SKY… AMAZING…. But for real it’s like K said, “sometimes people are meant to come together randomly.” And that’s what makes her so COOOOL… There’s no walls… It’s like we can almost finish each others sentence, but not really. It’s like when we find out one more thing we have in common it sheds a little more of those  insecurities between us off… It’s so odd how it works out, but it does… And when I thought about stuff we talked about in such a short time, it was very eye opening because I didn’t hold back much and I felt comfortable doing it. Only thing I can say is, “Get outta my head!”  So yeah, K… You are definitely special because you’re so much like me and that’s like a blessing in itself ; -) MOOD MUSIC: Nina Sky ft. Rick Ross – Curtain Call

#2 LOIS LAME… Probably the most sincere person I know and arguably someone who kind of gets me, but still doesn’t… Fun loving, free, has a love for bacon that I am in LOVE with and just a plain ol’ beautiful person. LOIS LAME was a blessing for me when I almost hit the bottom in ’08 and is still ridin’ with me. I know that in 2009 she’s going to be a problem because… Well I’m so gonna make sure she is! She’s like my pot of gold under the rainbow and a breath of fresh minty air in the winter. She’s the ultimate icing on any cupcake or brownie. She’s like the blue cheese that goes with my hot wings. Talking about her now is making me hungry… But seriously,  Lois is great and for someone who is so far away, she makes it seem like she’s right here with me every time we talk. FYI LL… If our bet ends up to be a draw, it won’t matter because you won overall for just making it to end and I’m PROUD of you for it. I on the other hand am just inflicting torture on myself…  Blog about that one. 😉 MOOD MUSIC: Britney Spears – Oops… I Did It Again

#3 KIMBERLEY… My #1 blog reader! Plus, the first person to actually confront me about what I’ve posted and called me out and said I was pretty much a RACIST… Well you were right in questioning me on that, but we squared it away and she knows I’m not a racist. Kimberley to me represents that wide-eyed inquisitive person I should have been at that early 20’s stretch of my life. She feels me on a lot issues, but also has the quiet innocents that is so refreshing because like all people in their early 20’s, THEY DON’T HAVE A FUCKING CLUE WHAT THE FUCK IS COMING. She’s a fan of F and was married to me through Hip Hop on facebook… Got to love that! Like the many people I try to influence she will be one of the great ones. She might fuck around and out do me one day… But it’s not bloody likely 😉  MOOD MUSIC: Aaliyah ft. Skillz & Danja Mowf – Are You That Somebody (Remix)

#4 F (NICKELUS F)… One of, if not the SMARTEST person I know. Like me he chose a path in life that only DESTINY can determine and DESTINY is a funny style bitch sometimes. Let’s you see her naked, but don’t let you smash… Now that F is grown… I think he’s ready to blow DESTINY’S back out in 2009. Watch… I’ve never questioned his determination or talent, but more so his dedication to this MUSIC… But lately, I’ve noticed that he is now more dedicated then ever to make something happen and I’m riding with em till the end… MOOD MUSIC: Nickelus F & Portishead – Roads

#5 DRAKE… One word DETERMINED. I liken my attitude to the kid a lot because he is exactly like me at his age. Ambitious, motivated, talented and blessed with opportunity. The difference between us is… I squandered away my opportunities, but now have my a second chance to make up for lost time. I remember before the Lil Wayne duets and deal with Interscope just talking to this 19 year old kid who had dreams of grandeur like no other person I knew. He wasn’t afraid to stunt just like me. He only lacked confidence in his music, which I can say I helped nurture with some of my “words of wisdom.” Seeing the way he moved kinda threw me off at times, but I see now that his heart is in the right place and he’s going to be bigger then what anyone expected in this game… 2009 it’s going to be serious DRIZZY! MOOD MUSIC: Lykke Li ft. Drake – Little Bit (Remix)

#6 ALI… Someone I mentored back at Penn State… Someone who I’ve seen grow from a shy nerd, to a businessman and ladies-man within a 2 year stretch. What I admire about Ali is that he listens and isn’t afraid of taking risks with what I call “found money.” Out of all the people I’ve encountered in my life this Persian fucker is the only one who has humbled me because he has no problem pulling my card. I always appreciated that and for real he’s more like family then friend and I’ll always have homie’s back. MOOD MUSIC: Swizz Beatz – That Oprah

#7 GOD… I’m so spiritually ONE’D right now that it’s like I’m a born again Christian or got saved or something, but I’m no religious fanatic or one who seeks answers from GOD. I just know my relationship with him is strong and even though I haven’t exactly found my path just yet; God is walking with me. He got to be cause I’d be dead by now with all the shit i’ve I’ve been living though. 😉 MOOD MUSIC: Jay-Z – Lucky Me

I picked these people to write about because they represent everything I have inside me so well and I feel in 2009 they’re all going to excel past expectations… Whether it be in their career, their studies, their relationships, their business or their music… I see them as key people now in my growth from this point on.

So it’s like I’m adding them to my list after dropping one big person off it.

To everyone I didn’t mention, you know that I love y’all in no particular order (MOMMY, DADDY, SISTER, KENNY, SHAUN, TERESA, ARCHNA, LANCE, KARI, JERRY, JENY, JANICE, RELL, JARED AND WHOEVER I FORGOT, YOU ALREADY KNOW I GOT YOU!) I’ve known ya’ll too long not to give you props.

Then there’s KOFI… That’s a whole other blog. COMING SOON… 🙂

So 2009… It’s a new year, we got a real nigga in office running the U.S. and I’m still alive. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Beans hit it on the head with that song…

“I can feel it in the air…”

Listen to the song again and pay attention to the video to get the point… He’s talking about getting busted down for criminal conspiracy, but it’s all relative to other things in life that we go though.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

It’s like sometimes we have no control over situations and people who we choose to trust… We become victims of our own naivety and can fall from it, but our intuition tells us that we can let the voice in our heads take control and let us pursue what we’re DESTINED for and who we’re DESTINED to travel that road with.

Beans heard the voice and I guess it felt like it was his time to go down…

I’ve been there and I’ve done my time….  Now it’s a new year and I have another 365 days to discover where it all falls again…
